MGM+ has unveiled the first look at the fourth season of Godfather of Harlem, premiering in spring 2025.
The upcoming season expands its ensemble with new cast members Rome Flynn (How to Get Away with Murder), Devin Kessler (Winning Time), Michael Benjamin Washington (American Auto), Elijah Wright (High and Low), and Erik Palladino (Suits).
They join returning stars Forest Whitaker, Jason Alan Carvell, Antoinette Crowe-Legacy, Ilfenesh Hadera, Lucy Fry, Elvis N and Erik LaRay Harvey.
This season, Bumpy Johnson (Whitaker) continues his bloody battle for control of Harlem against New York’s Mafia families while facing a new threat from Frank Lucas, played by Flynn. The North Carolina-born gangster infiltrates Harlem’s underworld, eventually aligning with Bumpy as his trusted right-hand man.
As Bumpy fights to maintain his control of Harlem, the personal stakes are just as high. He must navigate the aftermath of Malcolm X’s (Carvell) assassination while grappling with his daughter Elise’s (Crowe-Legacy) increasing involvement with the Black Panthers.
The new additions bring compelling characters into the mix. Michael Benjamin Washington portrays James Baldwin, the iconic Harlem-born writer and activist whose powerful voice and advocacy for justice provide a commanding presence. Elijah Wright steps into the role of Jerome Greene, a young Harlem native whose journey takes him from the Vietnam War to becoming an active member of the Black Panthers.
Devin Kessler takes on the role of Afeni Shakur, the revolutionary activist and mother of Tupac Shakur. Shakur’s introduction deepens the show’s exploration of Harlem’s social and cultural movements during the 1960s. Erik Palladino plays Pino Greco, a fearsome hitman and Genovese underboss entangled in a dangerous power struggle with Stella Gigante.
Created by Chris Brancato (Narcos) and the late Paul Eckstein, Godfather of Harlem masterfully intertwines real historical figures and events with fictional drama. Since its debut, the series has explored Harlem’s pivotal role in shaping America’s cultural and political landscape while delving into the complexities of power, race, and identity.
Produced by ABC Signature, the show’s executive producers include Forest Whitaker, Nina Yang Bongiovi, Markuann Smith, and Swizz Beatz, who also oversees the show’s acclaimed music.
