MGM+ has released the first teaser for the highly anticipated fourth season of Godfather of Harlem. The new season is set to premiere on April 13, 2025, and sees Forest Whitaker return as the iconic Bumpy Johnson. He’s joined by returning cast members Ilfenesh Hadera, Lucy Fry, Antoinette Crowe-Legacy, Erik LaRay Harvey, Michael Raymond James, Elvis Nolasco, and Erik Palladino. This season also introduces Daytime Emmy® winner Rome Flynn as Frank Lucas, alongside new cast members Michael Benjamin Washington, Devin Kessler, Elijah Wright, and more.
Season 4 continues the story of Bumpy Johnson as he wages war against New York’s Mafia families to maintain control of Harlem. Adding to the tension is the arrival of gangster Frank Lucas, played by Flynn, who eventually becomes a key figure in Harlem’s underworld. Meanwhile, Bumpy must also contend with the personal fallout from Malcolm X’s (Jason Alan Carvell) assassination and his daughter Elise’s (Crowe-Legacy) deeper involvement with the Black Panthers.
The expanded cast brings even more depth to the series. Michael Benjamin Washington portrays James Baldwin, the legendary Harlem-born writer and activist. Devin Kessler steps into the role of Afeni Shakur, a revolutionary activist and mother of Tupac Shakur, while Elijah Wright plays Jerome Greene, a Vietnam War veteran turned member of the Black Panthers. Erik Palladino joins as Pino Greco, a Genovese underboss embroiled in a dangerous power struggle.
Created by Chris Brancato (Narcos) and the late Paul Eckstein, Godfather of Harlem masterfully combines historical events with fictional storytelling. Since its debut, the series has delved into the complexities of power, race, and identity, while highlighting Harlem’s pivotal role in shaping American culture and politics. The show’s music, overseen by executive music producer Swizz Beatz, continues to play a key role in its storytelling.
Produced by 20th Television, the series is executive produced by Chris Brancato, Forest Whitaker, Nina Yang Bongiovi, James Acheson, Markuann Smith, Ray Quinlan, Michael Panes, and Stephen Schiff, with Swizz Beatz also serving as an executive producer.
