"Good Burger 2" Officially Greenlit at Paramount+ -- Kenan Thompson and Kel Mitchell to Return

Paramount+ has officially greenlit Good Burger 2 with original stars, Kenan Thompson and Kel Mitchell, set to reprise their roles as Dexter Reed and Ed, respectively. The news was announced on Friday’s episode of “The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon,” with the production slated to begin in May and a premiere date set for later in 2023.

The first “Good Burger” movie was released in 1997 and grossed just under $24 million, making it a box office success. The film originated as a sketch on the Nickelodeon series “All That,” where Mitchell starred as Ed. The movie has since achieved cult status and the stars have reunited multiple times over the years, including a “Good Burger” sketch on “The Tonight Show” in 2015.

The sequel, titled “Good Burger 2,” will see Dexter Reed down on his luck after another failed invention. Ed welcomes him back to Good Burger with open arms and gives him his old job back. However, with a new crew working at Good Burger, Dexter devises a plan to get back on his feet, putting the fate of Good Burger at risk once again.

Kevin Kopelow and Heath Seifert, who co-wrote the original film and worked on “All That,” serve as writers and executive producers on the sequel. James III is also a writer on the film, with Phil Traill directing. Nickelodeon Studios will produce, overseen by Shauna Phelan and Zack Olin, co-heads of Nickelodeon & Awesomeness Live-Action. Brittany Cope serves as Nickelodeon’s executive in charge of production.

“We’re thrilled to take audiences’ orders for more laughter and adventures with the ‘Good Burger’ crew,” said Tanya Giles, chief programming officer of Paramount Streaming. “Good Burger 2’ will be a great addition to our 2023 programming slate and is sure to serve up everything ‘All That’ fans and new viewers alike will enjoy.”

“Good Burger” is one of many Nickelodeon properties to be revived at Paramount+. The streaming service has also released the “iCarly” revival series, which has been renewed for a third season, as well as an updated version of “Rugrats” and other shows.

Thompson expressed his excitement about the sequel, saying, “Being a part of something so many generations of people have come to love has made me so proud, and now to be back where it all began working on the sequel is surreal!” Mitchell also commented on the project, saying, “It’s super awesome to come back and continue the stories of Dex, Ed and Good Burger for both the people who grew up watching and their kids.”

The “Good Burger” sequel promises to deliver the same comedy, cameos, and Easter eggs that made the first movie such a hit. Fans of the original film and the “All That” series can look forward to another wild, hilarious adventure with their favorite characters.
