The upcoming FX horror drama series Grotesquerie is quickly building anticipation for its premiere on Wednesday, September 25, at 10 p.m. ET/PT. The series, created by Ryan Murphy, is a chilling narrative with a cast led by Niecy Nash-Betts, who takes on the role of Detective Lois Tryon.

In the first teaser for Grotesquerie, viewers are introduced to a haunting atmosphere where Detective Tryon finds herself grappling with an unknown evil that only she can sense. “I don’t know how it started,” Nash-Betts narrates over ominous sirens and eerie crime scene visuals. “It’s like a hole opened up in the world – to the center of nothingness.” This sets the stage for a series that delves deep into the supernatural and the sinister forces at play in a seemingly quiet mountain town.

The teaser also gives a glimpse of a disturbing puzzle, with images of an animal standing upright on two legs and bull-like horns, followed by a fleeting shot of a real-life version of this creature. This brief but unsettling sequence hints at the malevolent force that is about to wreak havoc in the town.

As the teaser progresses, viewers see a town lit by neon signs and scattered crosses, with a nun cycling through the streets. A woman screams, and another character ominously remarks, “This killer is sermonizing, proselytizing, preaching. To understand this monster, we have to decipher these murders.” The unsettling scenes continue with shots of a fiery lava pit and more crosses, suggesting a connection between the killer and the devil.

One of the most anticipated aspects of the series is the role of Travis Kelce, who makes a brief appearance in the teaser. His character, however, remains shrouded in mystery.

According to the official series description, Grotesquerie revolves around a series of heinous crimes that have shaken a small community. Detective Tryon, portrayed by Nash-Betts, feels an eerie personal connection to these crimes, as if someone—or something—is targeting her. Complicating matters is her strained relationship with her daughter, a husband in long-term hospital care, and her own inner demons. With no clear leads, Tryon reluctantly accepts the help of Sister Megan, a nun and journalist played by Micaela Diamond. Despite her troubled past, Sister Megan believes in humanity’s capacity for good, while Tryon fears the world is succumbing to evil. Together, they follow a trail of clues that leads them deeper into a sinister web of mystery and danger.

The ensemble cast also includes Courtney B. Vance as Marshall Tyron, Lesley Manville as Nurse Redd, Nicholas Alexander Chavez as Father Charlie, and Raven Goodwin as Tryon’s daughter. The series is created by Murphy, Jon Robin Baitz, and Joe Baken, with Murphy also serving as a director alongside Max Winkler, Alexis Martin Woodall, and Elegance Bratton.

Grotesquerie will be available for streaming the next day on Hulu and internationally on Disney+. With its premiere just weeks away, fans can get a glimpse of what to expect by checking out the newly released teaser and key art.
