HBO has dropped a new trailer for its highly anticipated Harry Potter series, offering the most expansive look yet at the Wizarding World ahead of its Christmas 2026 premiere.
The trailer opens with Harry (Dominic McLaughlin), Ron (Alastair Stout) and Hermione (Arabella Stanton) arriving at Hogwarts for the sorting ceremony, where all three are placed in Gryffindor. From there it moves through some of the most beloved moments from Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone, including magical classes, a high-pressure game of chess, the infamous mountain troll encounter in the Hogwarts bathroom, the Invisibility Cloak, the Mirror of Erised and the mystery of the Philosopher’s Stone itself.
The new trailer also gives a more substantial look at the Hogwarts staff, with Paapa Essiedu’s Severus Snape making a memorable early impression. “Let’s hope you show some talent on the Quidditch pitch, Potter,” Snape tells Harry in one of the trailer’s standout moments. John Lithgow’s Dumbledore and Janet McTeer’s McGonagall also feature prominently.
The full cast includes Lithgow as Albus Dumbledore, McTeer as Professor McGonagall, Essiedu as Professor Snape, Nick Frost as Hagrid, Luke Thallon as Professor Quirrell, Paul Whitehouse as Argus Filch, Johnny Flynn as Lucius Malfoy and Bertie Carvel as Cornelius Fudge. Among the younger cast, Lox Pratt plays Draco Malfoy, Rory Wilmot is Neville Longbottom, Elijah Oshin is Dean Thomas, and Gracie Cochrane is Ginny Weasley.
HBO’s Harry Potter series is adapting all seven of J.K. Rowling’s books across seven seasons. Season 1 covers The Philosopher’s Stone across eight episodes and has already secured an early Season 2 renewal, which will follow The Chamber of Secrets.
The series is written and executive produced by Francesca Gardiner, with Mark Mylod executive producing and directing multiple episodes. Rowling, Neil Blair and Ruth Kenley-Letts of Bronte Film and TV and David Heyman of Heyday Films also executive produce.
Harry Potter premieres Christmas 2026 on HBO and Max.
