Amazon Studios’ upcoming movie Heads of State, will feature a star-studded cast that includes Idris Elba, Priyanka Chopra Jonas, and John Cena. Cameras are set to roll in May, with filming taking place under the direction of filmmaker Ilya Naishuller.
The script for Heads of State was written by Josh Appelbaum and André Nemec, with an initial draft provided by Harrison Query. The plot of the movie is being kept under wraps for now, but it has been described as a combination of the political action thriller Air Force One and the Robert De Niro action comedy Midnight Run. Additionally, some have compared it to the Fast & Furious spinoff, Hobbs & Shaw, suggesting that it will be a high-octane buddy cop-type film with elements of comedy and thriller throughout.
The Safran Company’s Peter Safran and John Rickard will produce the film, while Cena, Elba, and Marcus Viscidi will serve as executive producers. Amazon Studios has been particularly interested in Chopra Jonas recently, as she is set to appear in the upcoming global spy thriller Citadel.
Heads of State was first announced in late 2020, following a successful Zoom call between Amazon and Query, Safran, and Rickard.
