Ihuoma Ofordire to Pen Cleopatra Jones Remake For Macro, Warner Bros.

Lovecraft County and Snowfall writer Ihuoma Ofordire is penning the remake of the 1973 Blaxploitation film, Cleopatra Jones for Warner Bros and Charles D. King’s Macro.

The original film centered on Cleopatra Jones, played by Tamara Dobson, who is an undercover government agent who uses the day job of supermodel as her cover and an excuse to travel to exotic places. She is an invaluable assett to the United States Special Agent assigned to crack down on drug-trafficking in the U.S. and abroad.

After she burns a Turkish poppy field, the notorious drug-lord Mommy (Shelley Winters) is furious at the loss of her supply and vows to destroy Cleopatra Jones. Mommy uses her connections with bad cops on the force to cause trouble for Cleopatra’s friends and set her up for an attack. Meanwhile, Mommy is having trouble with some of her pushers, like the renegade Doodlebug.

Jack Starrett directed the 1973 flick that also starred Bernie Casey, Antonio Fargas, and more.

Macro’s King, Poppy Hanks and Jelani Johnson, and Misha Green are producing the project that has been in the works over at Warner Bros. for over four years.
