‘Ironheart’ is Still Happening as Dominique Thorne’s Riri Williams Returns to the MCU With High Stakes and New Alliances

It may seem like it was 4 years ago since ‘Ironheart’ was first teased (because it was) but the series is definitely still happening. And Marvel Studios finally gave fans a glimpse into the upcoming Disney+ series ‘Ironheart’ during a presentation at the D23 Expo in Anaheim on Friday. The six-episode series, created by Chinaka Hodge, also stars an ensemble cast including Anji White, Manny Montana, Shakira Barrera, Alden Ehrenreich, Regan Aliyah, Shea Couleé, Zoe Terakes, Paul Calderón, and Cree Summer.

The series, which continues the journey of Riri Williams, portrayed by Dominique Thorne, follows her life after the events of ‘Black Panther: Wakanda Forever.’ Thorne was joined by executive producer Ryan Coogler and co-star Anthony Ramos to unveil the highly anticipated footage.

In the teaser (which has yet to be released to anyone outside of D23), we see Riri struggling with life back at MIT after her pivotal role in saving Wakanda. “After my internship abroad, I felt stuck,” she confesses, hinting at her time in Wakanda. Desperate to break free from her creative rut, Riri focuses all her energy on her next big project, which is building an armor that resembles Tony Stark’s early Iron Man designs. but it comes at a cost. “I want to build something undeniable,” she asserts just before being expelled from MIT.

With her academic career in shambles and her financial resources drained, Riri turns to Parker Robbins, a character played by Anthony Ramos. Robbins, who goes by The Hood, tempts Riri into the dark arts, setting up a compelling conflict between her scientific brilliance and his supernatural powers. “Anyone who’s ever accomplished anything in life had to do some questionable things to get it done,” Robbins ominously remarks.

In addition, rumors have been swirling about Sacha Baron Cohen possibly joining the cast as the iconic Marvel villain Mephisto, though this has yet to be confirmed.
