Issa Rae’s Sweet Life: Los Angeles to Air on OWN With Fresh Cast Commentary

Issa Rae’s Sweet Life: Los Angeles is back in the spotlight and getting a second chance at life on OWN. The network isn’t just slapping a rerun label on it either—Deadline reports that OWN has been busy behind the scenes, filming fresh footage with the original cast. Each episode will feature 5 to 7 minutes of new commentary, adding fresh perspective and a little extra sauce to the show’s already flavorful storytelling.

First launched on HBO Max in 2021, Sweet Life: Los Angeles ran for two seasons and gave viewers a real, sometimes messy, but always relatable peek into the lives of young Black twenty-somethings hustling, loving, and leveling up in South LA. It was like Rae’s scripted series Insecure brought to life, but this time with real friends navigating that tricky quarter-life mark.

The show followed Amanda Scott, Briana Jones, Cheryl Des Vignes, Jerrold Smith II, Jordan Bentley, P’Jae Compton, Tylynn Burns, Rebecca Magett, Rob Lee, Jaylenn Hart, and Myami Woods—an ensemble that felt like your friends from around the way, if your friends were balancing loyalty, legacy, and the endless grind of LA life.

Even with Rae’s backing and a high-profile co-sign from Keke Palmer, Sweet Life: Los Angeles was cut after two seasons, much to the disappointment of fans who loved the show’s authentic vibes. But Rae has always kept the hope alive for a third season, and with OWN’s new push, there might just be a chance to bring it back for more.

Mark your calendars—Sweet Life: Los Angeles will hit OWN on June 13 at 9 p.m. ET. Whether you’re a first-time viewer or you’ve been with them since day one, this second run is shaping up to be the sweet comeback fans have been waiting for.
