Netflix Unveils Teaser and Release Date for ‘The Thursday Murder Club’

Netflix has dropped the first teaser for The Thursday Murder Club, the upcoming adaptation of Richard Osman’s bestselling whodunit, and it’s already got us counting down the days until August 28. Directed by Chris Columbus (Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone, Home Alone), the film brings Osman’s beloved novel to life with an all-star cast that includes Helen Mirren, Pierce Brosnan, Ben Kingsley, and Celia Imrie.

Joining the central foursome are a slew of talented faces: Naomi Ackie, Daniel Mays, Henry Lloyd-Hughes, Tom Ellis, Jonathan Pryce, David Tennant, Paul Freeman, Geoff Bell, Richard E. Grant, and Ingrid Oliver. Columbus and Jennifer Todd produced, with Osman himself among the executive producers.

The story centers on four retirees—Elizabeth (Mirren), Ron (Brosnan), Ibrahim (Kingsley), and Joyce (Imrie)—who spend their golden years cracking cold case murders for fun. But when a real murder takes place right on their doorstep, their hobby becomes a thrilling, high-stakes mission.

This first look promises a mix of cozy charm and crackling suspense as our amateur sleuths trade retirement bingo for crime scenes and red herrings. Katy Brand and Suzanne Heathcote adapted the screenplay for the Netflix and Amblin Entertainment production.

Osman’s The Thursday Murder Club took the UK by storm as the best-selling book of the decade, kicking off a hit series that fans can’t get enough of. Now, this adaptation is set to bring the same delight and intrigue to Netflix’s global audience.

The film marks another high-profile chapter in the careers of its stars. Brosnan has kept busy with crime caper Fast Charlie and the Western The Unholy Trinity, while Mirren dazzled in the Yellowstone prequel series 1923. Kingsley turned heads in last year’s indie gem Jules, showing that this cast of retirees is anything but retired in real life.

Check out the teaser trailer and get ready for August 28—because this is one murder mystery you won’t want to miss.
