It’s officially a wrap on Season 2 of Forever. Mara Brock Akil’s critically embraced Netflix romance series has completed production after an 80-day shoot spanning Los Angeles, Martha’s Vineyard and New York, with the series now heading into post-production.
Akil celebrated the milestone on Instagram Stories. “We just wrapped season two of Forever. God is good. God is good,” she said in an emotional video. “I’m now packing so I can get in this car and go see my kids. I miss them so much. 80 days we’ve been producing this from LA to New York. I love it.”
Production on the eight-episode second season kicked off May 8, 2026 and officially concluded August 28, 2026. While Season 1 was praised as a love letter to Los Angeles, Season 2 expanded its horizons considerably, with some cast members, including Karen Pittman, wrapping their LA filming weeks before the New York leg concluded.
The new season picks up four years later, dropping into the post-pandemic summer of 2023 with Keisha (Lovie Simone) and Justin (Michael Cooper Jr.) living separate lives, navigating new relationships and real jobs, until a chance reunion forces them to reckon with everything they thought they had moved past. The central question driving the season: can exes really be friends?
Lovie Simone and Michael Cooper Jr. return to lead the series alongside series regulars Wood Harris, Karen Pittman and Xosha Roquemore. Three new faces join the ensemble: Malaika Guttoh as series regular Ameena, Avery Wills Jr. (Swagger) in a recurring role as Jaden and Tre McBride (Fight for ’84) as Elijah.
On the music side, Grammy Award-winning Khris Riddick-Tynes joins as executive music producer, with Kier Lehman returning as music supervisor and original music once again provided by Until Tomorrow.
Forever is a reimagining of Judy Blume’s beloved Young Adult novel and is executive produced by Akil alongside Regina King, Susie Fitzgerald, Reina King and Erika Harrison. Season 2 is expected to release in 2027.
