Fox has dropped the full-length trailer for Doc Season 3, and things are about to get complicated at Westside Hospital. Blair Underwood is now a series regular as Dr. Ben Grant, a world-class cardiothoracic surgeon with an ego to match his resume, and the trailer makes clear he is hiding something significant from Amy Larsen (Molly Parker): the fact that they were once romantically involved.
As Doc fans will recall, Amy lost eight years of memories in a car accident. What she does not remember is that she and Ben had a relationship sometime after her divorce from her ex-husband Michael. Ben appeared to know this from the start, yet told Amy they barely knew each other. The trailer shows Amy beginning to recover flashes of their past, eventually confronting him. “All along, you were lying,” she tells him.
Ben’s arrival at Westside comes with professional friction as well. The skilled surgeon tells the board that Amy is not a draw in her current capacity, setting up a season of clashing egos and unresolved history.
Also new this season is a fresh class of interns, with four recurring guest stars joining the cast. Barrett Carnahan plays Graham Barker, the charming but entitled son of a wealthy hospital donor. Raffa Virago plays Nikki De Silva, a sharp and wound-tight overachiever. Cecilia Lee plays Ruth Chen, an empathetic and highly intelligent intern who can get frazzled under pressure. And Kolton Stewart (My Life with the Walter Boys, Heated Rivalry) plays Kyle Ferguson, the youngest of the group, described as brilliant, humble and a fish out of water having been homeschooled.
Amy will navigate the new interns alongside Dr. Sonya Maitra (Anya Banerjee) as co-chief residents. The rest of the returning cast includes Omar Metwally, Amirah Vann, Patrick Walker, and Jon Ecker.
Co-showrunner Hank Steinberg previously teased Ben’s arrival, saying the character is going to have a very different energy than everyone else on the show and that the audience should be asking questions about what to make of him.
Doc Season 3 premieres Tuesday, September 22 at 9/8c on Fox.
