Lionsgate and Universal have shared a first glimpse of the upcoming Michael Jackson biopic, aptly titled “Michael,” set to hit theaters on April 18, 2025.
The film stars Jaafar Jackson, Michael Jackson’s nephew, who steps into the shoes of the King of Pop. The released image showcases Jaafar Jackson recreating his uncle’s iconic “Man in the Mirror” look from the Dangerous Tour of 1992-93.
Producer Graham King expressed his enthusiasm for Jaafar’s portrayal, stating, “With Jaafar, every look, every note, every dance move is Michael. He embodies Michael in a way that no other actor could.”

The movie, as revealed in its logline, promises to deliver a captivating and truthful depiction of the multifaceted man who ascended to become the King of Pop. It aims to present Michael Jackson’s triumphs and tragedies on a grand cinematic scale, delving into his personal struggles, human side, and undeniable creative genius, epitomized by his most iconic performances.
The cast is an impressive ensemble, featuring Oscar nominee Colman Domingo as father Joe Jackson, Nia Long as mother Katherine Jackson, Juliano Krue Valdi as young Michael, and Miles Teller as lawyer John Branca.
Director Antoine Fuqua expressed his excitement about the project, stating, “We have assembled an incredible team of artists for this project – hair and makeup, costumes, cinematography, choreography, lighting, everything – and some who knew and worked with Michael are reuniting for this film. But most importantly, it’s Jaafar who embodies Michael. It goes beyond the physical resemblance. It’s Michael’s spirit that comes through in a magical way. You have to experience it to believe it.”
