One of New York City’s most notorious crimes is heading to the screen. PRƎPPY, a true-crime thriller centered on the 1986 Central Park murder that gave rise to the infamous Preppy Killer case, has set its director and leads. Janicza Bravo will helm the STX Entertainment and Aggregate Films production, with Kit Connor and Diana Silvers starring.
The film, based on an original screenplay by David Levine and Rose Lichter-Marck, takes audiences back to the summer of 1986 and the events leading to the murder of recent high school graduate Jennifer Levin at the hands of Robert Chambers, a former Manhattan private-school student. The case gripped the country and put privilege, class and sex on trial in ways that still resonate today.
Connor, who just landed the role of Cyclops in Marvel’s upcoming X-Men film, brings a fast-rising resume to the project that includes a Children’s and Family Emmy for Heartstopper and a British Independent Film Award for A24’s Warfare. Silvers, known for Booksmart and Ma, most recently wrapped a role opposite Richard Gere in Ed Zwick’s Asymmetry.
Bravo comes to the project fresh off a DGA Award nomination for FX’s The Bear, with a filmography that includes Zola and Lemon. She will also produce alongside Jason Bateman, Michael Costigan and John Buderwitz for Aggregate, with Peter Coleman and Paula Manzanedo producing for STX.
