Jasmine Amy Rogers is set to reprise her role as Betty Boop in the highly anticipated Broadway premiere of Boop! The Musical. Following a successful run in Chicago, the production will begin previews at the Broadhurst Theatre on March 11, 2025, with an official opening on April 5.
Rogers, who garnered rave reviews during the Chicago engagement, will headline the Broadway cast alongside several returning cast members, including Ainsley Melham as Dwayne, Erich Bergen as Raymond, Stephen DeRosa as Grampy, Anastacia McCleskey as Carol, Angelica Hale as Trisha, Phillip Huber as Pudgy the Dog, Aubie Merrylees as Oscar, and Faith Prince as Valentina.
Director and choreographer Jerry Mitchell, known for hits like Kinky Boots and Hairspray, shared his enthusiasm: “I am over the moon that our Chicago principal cast will be joining us on the journey to Broadway. Everyone embodies the infectious positive spirit of Betty Boop, and I can’t wait to get back in the rehearsal room to bring Boop! to Broadway.”
The creative team includes Grammy-winning composer David Foster, lyricist Susan Birkenhead, and book writer Bob Martin. Together, they bring Betty Boop’s iconic world to life in a story where the beloved cartoon character yearns for a day off from her black-and-white life. The result is a kaleidoscopic journey through New York City, filled with music, love, and a reminder that “You are capable of amazing things.”
Rogers, making her Broadway debut, has previously appeared in stage productions such as Jelly’s Last Jam, Mean Girls, The Wanderer, and Becoming Nancy. Prince, a Tony Award winner for Guys and Dolls, boasts an extensive Broadway résumé that includes Jerome Robbins’ Broadway, Bells Are Ringing, and A Catered Affair.
Created by animation pioneer Max Fleischer, Betty Boop first appeared on screens in 1930 and became a cultural icon by the mid-1930s. Known for her jazz-age flair and irrepressible charm, Betty has inspired audiences for nearly a century. This musical marks her Broadway debut, celebrating her timeless appeal with a contemporary twist.
The Chicago production of Boop! The Musical received acclaim for its vibrant staging and heartfelt performances, setting high expectations for its Broadway run. Mitchell, reflecting on the journey, said, “Creating Boop! with David, Susan, and Bob and premiering in Chicago last holiday season was a gift to all of us. I can’t wait to bring Betty home to Broadway next spring.
