Jeffrey Wright and Leslie Odom are lending their talents to tell Abraham Lincoln’s story in the upcoming docuseries Lincoln’s Dilemma from Apple TV+.
Based on David S. Reynolds’ book Abe: Abraham Lincoln in His Times, the series will take a new look at Abraham Lincoln, who was described as a complicated man, and what it took to end slavery in the United States.
Set against the background of the Civil War, the four-part series features insights from a diverse range of journalists, educators and Lincoln scholars, as well as rare archival materials, that offer a more nuanced look into the man dubbed the Great Emancipator. The docuseries promises give a “voice to the narratives of enslaved people, shaping a more complete view of an America divided over issues including the economy, race, and humanity.”
Jeffrey Wright will narrate the series while Leslie Odom, Jr. will portray Frederick Douglass. Bill Camp has also been cast as Lincoln, the 16th President of the United States.
The series is designed to be a nuanced look into not only Lincoln but the narratives of enslaved people.
Lincoln’s Dilemma is produced by Eden Productions and Kunhardt Films. Executive producers include Peter Kunhardt, Teddy Kunhardt, George Kunhardt, Josh Tyrangiel, Richard Plepler, Jacqueline Olive, Barak Goodman, and Jelani Cobb. Olive and Goodman direct the series.
The series is the latest in the streamer’s lineup of acclaimed documentaries and docuseries, including the Emmy Award-winning Boys States, Todd Haynes’ The Velvet Underground, the highly praised Beastie Boys Story, Billie Eilish: The World’s A Little Blurry, Fireball: Visitors from Darker Worlds, the upcoming The Supermodels, the Magic Johnson-focused docuseries, and Number One on the Call Sheet from Jamie Foxx, Kevin Hart, and more.
