HBO’s acclaimed crime drama Task is building out its Season 2 cast. Jharrel Jerome and Bethlehem Million are among the new additions, joining previously announced cast members Mark Ruffalo, Mahershala Ali, Julianne Nicholson, Harry Melling, Adam Nagaitis, Aminah Nieves and Edgar Ramírez. Silvia Dionicio also returns to reprise her role as Emily Brandis, Tom Brandis’ adopted teenage daughter.
In Season 2, Ruffalo’s Tom Brandis takes the helm of a new task force, but the deeper the operation runs, the harder it becomes to tell who is the target. The series is set in the working-class suburbs outside of Philadelphia and was initially conceived as a limited series before HBO and creator Brad Ingelsby felt a second season was warranted following the success of the first.
Jerome will play Jordan Barnes, the son of Mahershala Ali’s Eddie Barnes. Million will play Lisa Barnes, Eddie’s daughter. They join fellow new additions Tim Blake Nelson as Denny Coughlin, a career cop recruited to Brandis’ task force; Brián F. O’Byrne as Charlie Boylan, a retired DEA agent and mentor to Eddie Barnes; and Kevin Dunn as Vince Runyan, Brandis’ no-nonsense FBI boss. Andrew Russel also returns as Ethan Brandis, Tom’s son.
Martha Plimpton also returns with a significantly expanded role as FBI Supervisory Senior Resident in Charge Kathleen McGinty. Julianne Nicholson, who won an Emmy for her role as Lori Ross in Mare of Easttown, reprises that same character for Season 2, setting up a crossover with Ingelsby’s previous HBO series.
Dionicio, who next joins Matt Damon, Sandra Oh and Charles Melton in the Daniels’ upcoming Universal event film and will also co-star in Netflix’s YA drama Poser, is represented by CAA, IKIGAI Management & Media and Granderson Des Rochers.
Task is created, written and showrun by Brad Ingelsby, who executive produces alongside Paul Lee and Mark Roybal for wiip, Jeremiah Zagar, Ruffalo and Ron Schmidt. Nicole Jordan-Webber and Karen Wacker co-executive produce.
