History has been made. Spider-Man: Brand New Day has become the highest-grossing domestic opening weekend of all time, surpassing the record previously held by Avengers: Endgame since 2019. Final Monday actuals landed at $360 million from 4,487 North American theaters, edging past Endgame‘s $357.1 million to claim the all-time title. Globally, the film opened to $932 million, the second-biggest worldwide debut ever behind Endgame‘s $1.22 billion.
The weekend also produced the biggest collective domestic frame in box office history, with all films combined generating approximately $434 million, surpassing the previous record of $402 million set during Endgame‘s opening weekend in April 2019.
Directed by Destin Daniel Cretton and starring Tom Holland, Zendaya, Sadie Sink, Jacob Batalon and Jon Bernthal, Brand New Day picks up after the events of Spider-Man: No Way Home, following Peter Parker as he endures a lonely life without his loved ones before an invisible enemy tracks him down. The film earned an A CinemaScore and a 98 percent audience score on Rotten Tomatoes, with critics landing at 90 percent.
The record-breaking run happened without the help of IMAX screens, which were committed to Christopher Nolan’s The Odyssey for three weekends. Brand New Day instead dominated other premium large formats, setting opening weekend records for Dolby Cinema, 4DX and ScreenX. Following the historic weekend, IMAX announced it will split screens between both films going forward.
The film shattered records at every stage of its rollout. Thursday previews came in at $72 million, the largest in box office history, surpassing Endgame‘s previous record of $60 million. Friday including previews landed at $168 million, also a record. Saturday came in at $101.5 million, the second-best Saturday ever behind Endgame‘s $109.2 million. Total advance ticket sales reached $150 million by Thursday, an astonishing figure that initially caught even Sony off guard. The studio had originally projected a $195 million domestic opening.
The film’s audience skewed young, with 36 percent falling between ages 18 and 24 and 61 percent identifying as male. Diversity demographics showed 36 percent Caucasian, 28 percent Hispanic and Latino, 20 percent Black, 10 percent Asian American and 6 percent other. A total of 24.1 million moviegoers attended opening weekend, an all-time record in the EntTelligence era.
Brand New Day marks the biggest opening for Holland, Zendaya, director Cretton and Sony Pictures as a studio. Marvel Studios now holds the four largest domestic opening weekends of all time, with Brand New Day joining Endgame, No Way Home and Avengers: Infinity War at the top of the all-time list. Black Panther also remains in the top 10, cementing Marvel’s dominance of the all-time domestic opening weekend records.

Meanwhile, Christopher Nolan’s The Odyssey continued its remarkable run with $51 million in its third weekend, bringing its domestic total to $395.5 million and its global total past $911 million. Toy Story 5 has crossed $461 million domestically. Brand New Day and The Odyssey are both expected to cross the $1 billion global mark imminently, joining Toy Story 5, The Super Mario Galaxy Movie and Michael as billion-dollar films of 2026.
Spider-Man: Brand New Day is now in theaters. Avengers: Doomsday arrives December 18.
