Jordan Peele, the acclaimed creator of psychological horror films such as “Get Out,” “Us,” and “Nope,” is gearing up to share a thrilling new anthology that celebrates Black horror. Titled “Out There Screaming: An Anthology of New Black Horror,” this collection is set to be released on October 3rd through Random House.
In a unique twist, Peele curated “Out There Screaming,” personally selecting 19 Black authors to contribute all-new short horror stories to this 400-page collection. He has also penned the foreword for the anthology. Pre-orders for the book are already underway, and it’s generating considerable buzz within the literary world.

The anthology promises to deliver stories that “prey on everything we think we know about our world… and redefine what it means to be afraid.” Based on a sample excerpt from N. K. Jemisin’s “Reckless Eyeballing,” available on the book’s Amazon page, readers can anticipate narratives that share the gripping qualities that have made Peele’s films so compelling. These stories build tension and incorporate surreal thrills within contemporary and resonant settings, immersing readers in the characters’ experiences and shedding light on various aspects of our society in the process.
The roster of authors featured in “Out There Screaming” includes Erin E. Adams, Violet Allen, Lesley Nneka Arimah, Maurice Broaddus, Chesya Burke, P. Djèlí Clark, Ezra Claytan Daniels, Tananarive Due, Nalo Hopkinson, N. K. Jemisin, Justin C. Key, L. D. Lewis, Nnedi Okorafor, Tochi Onyebuchi, Rebecca Roanhorse, Nicole D. Sconiers, Rion Amilcar Scott, Terence Taylor, and Cadwell Turnbull.

Mark your calendars for October 3rd, when “Out There Screaming” will be available on bookstore shelves.
