A janitor with dreams of performing and a foster child with an extraordinary voice are the heart of God’s Not Done Yet, a new music- and faith-driven drama from writer-director Bill McAdams Jr. Karen Abercrombie leads the cast, joined by McAdams Jr. himself, pop recording artist Sarah Reeves, Mary Jean Bentley, and 12-year-old Audrey Howe in her feature film debut.
McAdams Jr. plays Happy McDoogle, the janitor at the center of the story, while Howe plays Lucy, a 12-year-old in foster care whose singing voice and imagination hide a deeper longing for a family of her own. Their shared love of music draws them together, and from there the story widens: Abercrombie plays Frankie, owner of a historic theater fighting to keep its doors open, Bentley plays Lucy’s guarded foster mother working through a painful past, and Reeves plays Hope, a local shopkeeper who becomes Happy’s unexpected love interest. As the community rallies to save the theater, each of their stories converge around faith, forgiveness, and the idea that the family someone’s searching for might already be closer than they think.
McAdams Jr. and Reeves co-wrote the script together, composed the film’s original score, and wrote seven original songs for it, a tight creative partnership that also marks Reeves’s first credit as a producer.
For Abercrombie, the role adds to a career built on War Room, where her performance as Miss Clara helped establish her as one of faith-based film’s most recognizable names. She’s since appeared as Grandma Quill in Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3, alongside recurring and guest roles on Turn, The Vampire Diaries, and Ally McBeal, plus extensive Off-Broadway work. McAdams Jr., known for message-driven films like Gallows Road and Bully High, previously directed 2024’s God’s Here, which earned six nominations at the International Christian Film & Music Festival and a Crown Award win for Best Actor, the same film that marked Reeves’s own acting debut. Reeves, signed to Curb Records, has released four studio albums and racked up more than 272 million global streams, with music placed across Disney+, Netflix, and several major networks.
With McAdams Jr. and Reeves writing, scoring, and starring together again, God’s Not Done Yet picks up where their creative partnership on God’s Here left off, this time with Reeves stepping behind the camera as producer for the first time.
