Keke Palmer Set to Star in Searchlight’s Character-Driven Drama ‘Lottery’

Keke Palmer is continuing her impressive run with a new leading role, as Searchlight Pictures has officially greenlit Lottery, a character-driven drama from Permut Presentations.

The film will follow a young man with Down syndrome who, after unexpectedly winning the lottery, escapes his estranged mother and sets out on a road trip with a magnetic new companion—played by Palmer—whose intentions may not be as genuine as they seem.

Palmer stars opposite Zack Gottsagen, who broke out in the critically acclaimed The Peanut Butter Falcon. The project will be directed by Thor Freudenthal (Percy Jackson: Sea of Monsters, Words on Bathroom Walls), with a screenplay from Alexis C. Jolly.

Production is led by Oscar-nominated producer David Permut (Hacksaw Ridge), alongside Jen Dana and Dan Crown, with Palmer also serving as an executive producer.

The project is being overseen at Searchlight by production executive Apolline Berty, under co-heads DanTram Nguyen and Katie Goodson-Thomas.

Palmer continues to build one of the most dynamic careers in Hollywood. A two-time Emmy winner, she took home awards for hosting Password and for her performance in Turnt Up With the Taylors. She was also named Entertainer of the Year at the 2025 NAACP Image Awards and remains a multi-hyphenate force across film, television, and digital.

Her film credits include Nope, Hustlers, and One of Them Days, with upcoming roles including Boots Riley’s I Love Boosters. She currently stars in Peacock’s The ’Burbs and hosts the podcast Baby, This is Keke Palmer.

Meanwhile, Gottsagen continues to expand his filmography following the success of The Peanut Butter Falcon, earning recognition including the Rising Star Award at the Palm Springs International Film Festival.

With a compelling premise and a strong creative team behind it, Lottery is shaping up to be a layered, character-focused drama that leans into both emotional depth and moral complexity.
