Kelvin Harrison Jr. to Receive 2024 Rising Star Award at the 6th American Black Film Festival Honors

Kelvin Harrison Jr. has been announced as the recipient of the 2024 Rising Star Award at the 6th American Black Film Festival (ABFF) Honors. Known for his roles in “Genius: MLK/X” and “Chevalier,” Harrison’s talent has earned him recognition, including a SAG award for his ensemble cast work in “The Trial Of The Chicago 7.”

ABFF Honors, presented by NICE CROWD, will take place on March 3rd at the SLS hotel in Beverly Hills, CA. Hosted by Tommy Davidson, the event will also honor Garrett Morris, Taraji P. Henson, Jeffrey Wright, and Mara Brock Akil.

Jeff and Nicole Friday, CEO and President of NICE CROWD, expressed their excitement, stating, “We are thrilled to celebrate Kelvin Harrison Jr. as our Rising Star honoree alongside Garrett, Taraji, Jeffrey, and Mara.”

Harrison’s recent roles have showcased his versatility and depth as an actor. His portrayal of Martin Luther King Jr. in “Genius: MLK/X” has been particularly acclaimed.

The ABFF Honors, founded in 2016, recognizes excellence in the motion picture and television industry. Alongside individual honors, the ceremony includes the “Fan Favorite Movie of the Year” award, determined by popular vote.

Kelvin Harrison Jr. shared his gratitude for the recognition, saying, “I am incredibly honored to receive the Rising Star Award from the American Black Film Festival Honors. It’s humbling to be recognized alongside such esteemed talent.”

The ABFF, founded by Jeff Friday in 1997, has been instrumental in promoting Black storytelling in the industry. The event aims to provide opportunities for Black artists and amplify their voices.

Executive produced by Nicole and Jeff Friday (NICE CROWD), the ABFF Honors is sponsored by Cadillac, Amazon MGM Studios, Sony Pictures Entertainment, and Fulton Films.

In its sixth year, the ABFF Honors continues to celebrate and elevate Black talent, providing a significant platform for recognition in the entertainment industry.
