Kim Kardashian is set to produce and star in the upcoming comedy series ‘Group Chat,’ under her first-look deal with 20th Television. The series, developed for Hulu, marks her first project under this multi-year agreement is an unique addition to her rapidly expanding portfolio in the television industry.
‘Group Chat’ brings together Kardashian with longtime friend La La Anthony, who will headline the series. The show is inspired by Anthony’s bestselling book, The Love Playbook: Rules for Love, Sex, and Happiness, and is being created by Kenya Barris, the mastermind behind ‘black-ish.’ Barris, a principal partner at BET Studios, is producing the series in collaboration with 20th TV, with Kardashian, Anthony, and Barris all serving as executive producers.
This project follows a series of high-profile deals for Kardashian, who landed her first major acting role in Season 12 of FX’s American Horror Story. Since then, she has signed on to star in and produce the drama series All’s Fair for Hulu and successfully pitched three additional projects that sparked bidding wars among major studios.
Reflecting on her collaboration with 20th Television, Kardashian shared, “I’m incredibly interested in telling stories that are personal, complicated, relevant, from my own experiences and those familiar to me. I had a front-row seat to working with the exceptional team at 20th Television during American Horror Story: Delicate, and I’m so excited to dive into developing my first wave of television projects.”
Kardashian’s first-look deal with 20th Television spans drama, comedy, and limited series, further solidifying her presence in the entertainment industry. Her partnership with Kenya Barris, known for his work on ‘black-ish’ and other successful projects, along with La La Anthony’s involvement, positions ‘Group Chat’ as a highly anticipated series for Hulu.
In addition to her work on ‘Group Chat,’ Kardashian has been involved in other major television and film projects. These include Calabasas, a Netflix series co-produced with her Delicate co-star Emma Roberts, and two movies—a comedy titled The Fifth Wheel at Netflix and an untitled thriller at Amazon MGM Studios.
La La Anthony, best known for her role as LaKeisha in Starz’s Power and currently starring in Starz’s BMF, brings her experience and talent to ‘Group Chat.’ Her first book, The Love Playbook, which serves as the inspiration for the series, was a New York Times bestseller and offered advice on navigating love, sex, and relationships. Anthony has continued her literary success with The Power Playbook, further establishing her as a multifaceted talent in the entertainment industry.
Kenya Barris continues to expand his impressive resume with this latest project. In addition to ‘Group Chat,’ he recently executive produced the BET+ series Diarra From Detroit and created content such as #blackAF, Entergalactic, and You People for Netflix. Barris remains a significant force in television and film, known for his ability to create culturally resonant and critically acclaimed work.
With ‘Group Chat,’ Kardashian, Anthony, and Barris are poised to deliver a fresh, engaging comedy that draws from personal experiences and explores modern relationships in a relatable and humorous way.
