Lab Studios has unveiled the official trailer for its upcoming romance drama Love Offside, a heartwarming and culturally rich film set against the lush landscapes of Jamaica. Starring Judi Johnson and Mike Merrill, the film explores the intersection of love, healing, and identity within the backdrop of alternative medicine and elite sports.
Directed by Dale S. Lewis and written by Daniel Campbell and Jeanette Milio, Love Offside follows Cami Hart (Johnson), a gifted yet overlooked physical therapist navigating the pressures of a high-stakes medical career. Constantly belittled by her hard-nosed boss Michelle Bailey (Sundra Oakley) and overshadowed by her high-achieving mother, Dr. Linnet Hart (Victoria Rowell), Cami finds a chance to step into her power when she secretly takes on the recovery of injured rugby star Ryan Hunter (Merrill).
While posing as Michelle, Cami implements a daring blend of traditional Jamaican healing—think Lignum Vitae and the famed mineral springs of St. Thomas—paired with modern rehabilitation techniques. Though Ryan is initially resistant, the pair develop a cautious bond that slowly blossoms into something deeper. But complications arise with the return of Michelle, a deceptive girlfriend (Leah Stevens), and a scandal that risks Cami’s career and reputation.
The film also stars Carli McIntyre, Dennis Titus, Karl O’Brian Williams, Dorothy Cunningham, and Tosh Alexander-Simmonds.
Executive produced by Kimala Bennett, Melissa Llewellyn-Alston, and Lorisa Bates, Love Offside is part of Lab Studios’ growing slate of Caribbean-led films, aiming to bring regional stories to global audiences. The studio, which also functions as a full-service advertising agency, is known for its distinctive approach to storytelling—fusing universal themes with rich cultural specificity and scenic island visuals.
Set for a 2025 release, the 1-hour 45-minute feature is one of five films Lab Studios plans to debut next year, reinforcing its mission to position Jamaica and the wider Caribbean as a vibrant hub for international filmmaking.
