Lauren London is joining the cast of Snoop, Universal Pictures’ upcoming biographical film about Snoop Dogg, set to portray his late mother Beverly Tate, also known as Beverly Broadus-Green, Deadline exclusively reported. London joins previously announced cast members Jonathan Daviss, who stars as Snoop Dogg, and Myles Bullock as Dr. Dre
The film chronicles the life of Calvin Broadus Jr., who emerged from Long Beach, California to become not only one of the biggest rappers of the 1990s but one of the most recognizable pop culture icons of his generation. The biopic traces his roots and rise, from his early days in Long Beach through his entry into the music industry and his world-defining partnership with Dr. Dre, which produced his landmark debut album Doggystyle and helped define West Coast hip-hop for a generation.
Tate, a church choir director, ordained evangelist and author, had a profound influence on her son Calvin Broadus, including giving him the inspiration for his now-iconic nickname. Broadus loved watching Peanuts as a child and Beverly began calling him Snoopy because he reminded her of the beloved cartoon dog. The casting marks a full-circle moment for London and Snoop, who worked together in the early 2000s on various music videos and later reunited to honor her late husband Nipsey Hussle after his murder in 2019. For London, the role is also a deeply personal one, stepping into the shoes of a woman who shaped one of music’s most iconic figures before her passing in October 2021 at the age of 70.
Known for her work in You People, Without Remorse, ATL and Games People Play, London is a Los Angeles native whose career has spanned film, television and entrepreneurship. Beyond Hollywood, she is a passionate mental health advocate and inspirational speaker.
Craig Brewer directs from a script he rewrote based on Joe Robert Cole’s original screenplay. The film is produced by Snoop Dogg and Death Row Pictures president Sara Ramaker, alongside Brian Grazer and Allan Mandelbaum for Imagine Entertainment. Michael Beugg and Jeb Brody executive produce. The film will incorporate music from Snoop Dogg’s vast catalog and is the first project under Death Row Pictures’ overall deal with NBCUniversal Entertainment.
Universal previously brought the N.W.A. story to the screen with the Oscar-nominated Straight Outta Compton in 2015, in which LaKeith Stanfield played Snoop and Corey Hawkins portrayed Dr. Dre.
Snoop opens in theaters August 6, 2027.
