The cast of Warner Bros. Pictures’ untitled Ocean’s Eleven prequel continues to grow. Lauren Ridloff and British actor Jack Holden have joined the film, while Omar Sy is in negotiations to come aboard. They join previously announced cast members Bradley Cooper, Margot Robbie, Wagner Moura, Monica Barbaro and Josh Gad, as well as newly confirmed additions Vicky Krieps and George MacKay.
Cooper is directing, writing, starring and producing. Robbie is co-starring and producing through her LuckyChap Entertainment banner alongside company partner Tom Ackerley. Filming is set to begin in late July in Paris before moving to the South of France. Warner Bros. has set a June 25, 2027 release date.
Rather than picking up where the Steven Soderbergh trilogy left off, the prequel goes back in time. Set against the backdrop of the 1963 Monaco Grand Prix, the period piece follows Danny Ocean’s parents, the con-artist masterminds who taught him everything he knows. Robbie teased the premise during CinemaCon earlier this year. “Before Danny Ocean ever stepped foot in Vegas, two masterminds taught him everything he knows, his parents,” she said. “You’ll see them in their prime, and in our new movie, pulling off an epic heist at the 1962 Monaco Grand Prix.” Moura is playing the film’s villain. The roles of the newest additions have not been disclosed.
Krieps, the German-Luxembourg actress who earned the Un Certain Regard best performance prize at the 2022 Cannes Film Festival for Corsage, first caught Hollywood’s attention opposite Daniel Day-Lewis in Paul Thomas Anderson’s Phantom Thread. MacKay, best known for Sam Mendes’ 1917, recently won a British Independent Film Award for Femme and can next be seen in Sense and Sensibility and the period drama Cry to Heaven.
Ridloff earned a Tony Award nomination for her Broadway debut in Children of a Lesser God before going on to star in AMC’s The Walking Dead and Marvel Studios’ Eternals. Holden, an Olivier Award winner, is known for his stage work including Cruise and KENREX: A True Crime Thriller, with screen credits including Amazon’s Ten Percent.
Sy, best known internationally for his breakthrough in The Intouchables and Netflix’s Lupin, is currently in negotiations. His recent credits include John Woo’s The Killer, The Book of Clarence and Shadow Force. He recently wrapped production as the lead on Mercenary: An Extraction Series for Netflix, with Lupin Part 4 arriving in October.
The Ocean’s franchise, spanning the Soderbergh trilogy starring George Clooney, the late Bernie Mac, Don Cheadle, Matt Damon, Brad Pitt and Julia Roberts, as well as the Ocean’s Eight reboot with Sandra Bullock, Cate Blanchett, Anne Hathaway and Rihanna, has earned more than $1.4 billion at the global box office.
