Teyana Taylor’s feature directorial debut is assembling quite a cast.
Oscar nominee Aunjanue Ellis-Taylor, Tony winner and Oscar nominee Leslie Odom Jr., Woody McClain, Ceyair Wright and indie hip-hop artist Khayr Bullock have joined Get Lite, the Paramount dance drama starring previously announced Storm Reid and Twitch streamer Tylil James, who, as we previously reported, announced his casting live on stream alongside Reid. Jodie Turner-Smith and Asante Blackk are in negotiations for key roles.
The film follows a talented but sheltered dance student who finds inspiration, love and family in the last place he expected: the subways of New York City. At the center of the story is Litefeet, a high-energy dance style that originated in Taylor’s hometown of Harlem. Wright, the Cincinnati Bengals cornerback who stepped away from the team during training camp to pursue the film, plays the student caught between worlds, while Reid plays the girl who opens his life to new possibilities. Production is now underway in New York City ahead of an August 20, 2027 theatrical release.
Taylor directs from a screenplay by Maurice Williams, based on a spec script by Eric Gross that appeared on the Black List in 2020. Taylor is coming off an Academy Award nomination for her performance in One Battle After Another.
Reid produces alongside Kenya Barris and Anni Weisband for Khalabo Ink Society, Robyn Simpson for A Seed and Wings Productions and Bill Karesh for Offbrnd. Taylor also produces with Courtney “Coco” Gilbert under their banner The Aunties.
Get Lite hits theaters August 20, 2027.
