The official trailer for MGM+’s limited series adaptation of Charles Dickens’ A Tale of Two Cities is here, offering a first look at the four-part drama ahead of its September 6 premiere.
Set in London in 1782 against the backdrop of rising tensions between France and Britain, the series follows Lucie Manette (Mirren Mack), a young woman whose life is upended when she learns her father, believed dead for nearly 20 years, may still be alive in Paris. The messenger who brings her the news, idealistic French emigre Charles Darnay (François Civil), is promptly arrested and charged with treason, forcing Lucie to enlist the help of brilliant but erratic young lawyer Sydney Carton (Kit Harington) to free him. What follows is a sweeping love triangle that binds all three together through triumphs, tragedies, marriage and murder.
The supporting cast includes Sharon Duncan-Brewster, Yannick Renier, Fehinti Balogun and Guillaume Gallienne.
The series is written by Daniel West (Gunpowder, Top Boy) and directed by Richard Clark (Outlander). Executive producers include Polly Williams, Leo Becker, Sarah Best, Kit Harington, Daniel West and Hong Khaou. Simon Meyers (I May Destroy You) produces.
A Tale of Two Cities is produced by Federation Stories in co-production with Federation Studio France and Thriker Films for MGM+ and the BBC, with distribution by Federation International. The series also airs on BBC One and BBC iPlayer in the UK.
The four-part limited series premieres Sunday, September 6 on MGM+, followed by weekly releases.
