Lifetime Drops Trailer for ‘Angel in the Rubble,’ Premiering September 12 in Honor of the 25th Anniversary of 9/11

Lifetime is marking the 25th anniversary of the September 11 attacks with a new original film. Angel in the Rubble, the fourth project under the Robin Roberts Presents banner, stars Sherri Shepherd as Genelle Guzman, the last survivor pulled from the debris at Ground Zero, with the official trailer now released ahead of its Saturday, September 12 premiere at 8/7c.

Shepherd plays Genelle Guzman, a New York City transit worker who was buried beneath the collapse of Tower One and trapped for 27 harrowing hours. As she fought to stay alive, Genelle reflected on her life and the faith she had left behind, praying for deliverance and promising to change if given another chance. Her prayers were answered when a mysterious man named Paul found her in the debris and remained by her side until rescuers pulled her to safety, making her the final survivor recovered from Ground Zero. When Genelle later searched for Paul to thank him, no one could confirm he was ever there, leading her to believe he was an angel sent to save her.

Dondré Whitfield co-stars as Genelle’s partner. The film is based on Guzman-McMillan’s bestselling memoir Angel in the Rubble: The Miraculous Rescue of 9/11’s Last Survivor and is written by Robert Eisele. Roberts and Shepherd both executive produce through Rock’n Robin Productions alongside Linda Berman, Anne Carlucci, Jameson Parker and Gemma Martini for Lighthouse Pictures and Chet Fenster for Motion Entertainment.

The Robin Roberts Presents banner has previously produced I Will Survive: The Gloria Gaynor Story, Stolen By My Mother: The Kamiyah Mobley Story starring Niecy Nash and Mahalia starring Danielle Brooks, the latter of which earned an Emmy nomination, Critics Choice nominations and NAACP recognition.

Angel in the Rubble premieres Saturday, September 12 at 8/7c on Lifetime.
