Freeform has released the first teaser trailer for Coven Academy, the new supernatural teen drama from executive producer Tim Federle, premiering October 1 at 8 p.m. ET. The full season will be available to stream the next day on Disney+, Hulu and Freeform on Demand.
Set to Olivia Rodrigo’s “Brutal,” the teaser offers a first look at the world of Crescent Veil, an elite New Orleans boarding school where three teenage witches and their dangerously charming warlock peers navigate a world where power is currency, secrets are lethal and attraction is a liability. Caught between ancient supernatural wars and forbidden love interests, the coven must decide how far they are willing to go to protect their city and themselves.
Malina Pauli Weissman leads the cast as Briar, a fiercely independent New Yorker who discovers she is a witch after being sent to Crescent Veil following the mysterious death of her mother. Jordan Leftwich plays Sasha, a deeply empathic student who can read minds and control emotions. Ora Duplass plays Tegan, an irreverent time-bending witch whose ADHD manifests as the source of her power. Malachi Barton plays Jake, a magnetic warlock with a dangerous edge, and Louis Thresher plays Ollie, a reluctant newly turned vampire who refuses to feed on human blood.
Tiffani Thiessen plays Miss Graves, the formidable and glamorous head of the school, with Devon Sawa guest starring as Mr. Cole, a brilliant and charismatic warlock professor. The recurring cast includes BJ Harrison as Agnes, the school’s immortal archivist, and Nathaniel Logan McIntyre as Tesse, an intense new vampire consumed by grief, alongside Swayam Bhatia, Brendon Tremblay and Keegan Connor Tracy.
The first season will roll out in 21 bite-sized chapters designed for binge viewing. Nine chapters premiere October 1 on Freeform, six more on October 8 and the final six on October 15, with the full season available on Disney+ and Hulu starting October 2.
Federle, known for High School Musical: The Musical: The Series, created Coven Academy and executive produces alongside Todd Slavkin, Darren Swimmer, Amanda Row and Bronwyn North-Reist. The series is produced by Federle’s Chorus Boy Productions in association with Disney Kids and Family.
