Writer-director Evan Oppenheimer has wrapped production on Out on a Limb, an indie romantic comedy shot on location in New York, with a supporting cast that includes Lorraine Toussaint and Samuel Arnold.
The film stars Jake Horowitz (The Rivals of Amziah King) and Alice Nokes (Wreck), with Toussaint, Arnold, Alfred Molina, and Gaten Matarazzo rounding out the supporting cast alongside Kirrilee Berger and Julia Abueva.
Out on a Limb follows an insecure MBA student who fakes a broken ankle and poses as a medical student in an attempt to win over a free-spirited, music-loving woman, only to watch the lie start to unravel as real feelings develop. The film is produced by Edward Schmidt, Jay Zellman, and Alessandro Penazzi under Ankle Deep LLC.
Oppenheimer is a New York-based writer and director whose career spans more than two decades, with nine indie features to his name, most recently Peas and Carrots in 2024.
Toussaint, meanwhile, has kept a steady presence on screen, recently appearing as Catherine Lancaster across eight episodes of The Better Sister, guest-starring as Alberta Dome in All’s Fair, and voicing Dr. Lullah across 40 episodes of StuGo. She also wrapped her longtime recurring role as Viola “Aunt Vi” Lascelles on The Equalizer after its run from 2021 to 2025.
The project arrives at a busy moment for Arnold, who wrapped filming this fall after spending much of 2025 and 2026 tied up with Emily in Paris, where he plays Julien. Season 5 of the Netflix hit premiered in December 2025 and took his character to Rome, before production rolled straight into Season 6, which filmed in Greece ahead of the show’s planned conclusion.
Horowitz, a 2023 Juilliard graduate, is best known for The Vast of Night, which earned him a Best Actor nomination at the 2021 Critics Choice Super Awards. He most recently starred opposite Matthew McConaughey and Kurt Russell in the Black Bear crime thriller The Rivals of Amziah King, which premiered at SXSW before its August release. His additional credits include Peacock’s Devil in Disguise: John Wayne Gacy and Luca Guadagnino’s Bones and All.
Nokes, a British actress based in Manhattan, has worked on stage and screen since age 10, starting with a role on BBC’s EastEnders before landing supporting parts in HBO’s Game of Thrones, Apple TV+’s Ted Lasso, and Amazon’s The Spanish Princess. She went on to lead roles in Channel 5’s Dalgliesh and starred for two seasons in BBC Three and Hulu’s Wreck.
