Valentine’s Day just got a dark twist with Love Hurts, a high-octane action thriller from 87North Productions, the powerhouse behind John Wick, Bullet Train, and Violent Night. The film stars Academy Award® winner Ke Huy Quan (Everything Everywhere All at Once) in his first major leading role, portraying Marvin Gable—a seemingly mild-mannered realtor whose quiet life is shattered when his deadly past comes back to haunt him. Watch the gripping trailer below.
Starring alongside Quan are Oscar® winner Ariana DeBose (West Side Story, Argylle), former NFL player-turned-actor Marshawn Lynch, Mustafa Shakir, Daniel Wu, and Sean Astin, with veteran stunt coordinator JoJo Eusebio (John Wick, The Fall Guy) making his directorial debut.
In Love Hurts, Marvin Gable’s quiet life in the Milwaukee suburbs is shattered by a mysterious crimson envelope from Rose, played by DeBose, a former partner he left for dead. Rose’s ominous message, “Love Hurts,” sets off a brutal chain of events, forcing Marvin back into a dangerous underworld of hitmen, deadly traps, and betrayal.
As Marvin tries to navigate the chaos, he must confront his crime-lord brother, Knuckles (Wu), who harbors a deep grudge and hunts him with a vengeance. As open houses become battlegrounds, Marvin is forced to face the consequences of his choices and the past he thought was buried.
Produced by 87North—the team behind action hits like Nobody, Bullet Train, and Violent Night—Love Hurts combines intense action sequences with a compelling narrative. Quan expressed his excitement about the role, noting that Marvin represents “a different kind of action star” who doesn’t “look like a badass until the situation demands it.”
The trailer showcases a mix of high-stakes action and emotional depth, setting the stage for a thrilling cinematic experience this Valentine’s Day. Love Hurts is scheduled for theatrical release on February 7, 2025.
