Kimber Elayne Sprawl (Girl from the North Country), Andrew Burnap (The Inheritance, Disney’s upcoming live-action Snow White), Anthony Michael Lopez (Our Town, Camelot), and Daniel Pearce (The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee) have been cast in the highly anticipated Broadway revival of Othello, led by Denzel Washington and Jake Gyllenhaal.
In Shakespeare’s Othello, Washington takes on the role of the noble Moor of Venice, a celebrated military leader ensnared in a web of deception and betrayal by his envious lieutenant, Iago, played by Gyllenhaal. Iago’s manipulative schemes turn Othello against his wife, Desdemona, played by Molly Osborne, in a tragic exploration of jealousy and ambition.
The newly announced cast members will portray Emilia, Cassio, Roderigo, and Brabantio.
The casting news, revealed today by producer Brian Anthony Moreland, hints at more announcements to come as the full cast lineup is finalized. Set to open at the Barrymore Theatre and directed by Tony Award winner Kenny Leon, the revival will begin previews on Monday, February 24, 2025, leading to its official opening night on Sunday, March 23, 2025. Audiences will have a 15-week window to catch the production, with its final performance slated for Sunday, June 8.

The production boasts a creative team of Broadway veterans, including Derek McLane for scenic design, Dede Ayite for costume design, Natasha Katz for lighting design, Justin Ellington for sound design, and Mia Neal for hair and wig design.
Produced by Brian Anthony Moreland, Kandi Burruss, and Todd Tucker, Othello brings together an extensive list of co-producers, including Devale Ellis, Lu-Shawn M. Thompson, Lamar Richardson, Branden Grimmett, Christen James, Willette & Manny Klausner, and many others who have contributed to making this revival a reality.
Additionally, the production will benefit from the expertise of Claire Warden as intimacy director, Narda E. Alcorn as production stage manager, and casting directors ARC / Duncan Stewart, CSA, and Jarrett Reiche. 101 Productions, Ltd. has been named the general manager for the show.
This revival is notable as the first Broadway staging of Othello since 1982, when James Earl Jones, Christopher Plummer, and Dianne Wiest headlined the production. The Barrymore Theatre, which last hosted Othello nearly 90 years ago in a repertory run with Macbeth, will once again provide the setting for this classic tragedy.
Washington’s collaboration with Leon on Othello follows their successful 2014 production of A Raisin in the Sun at the same theater, promising audiences another powerful performance.
