Award-winning actress Lynn Whitfield is gearing up to grace the screen once again, as she joins the highly-anticipated sixth season of Showtime’s hit series, “The Chi.” Whitfield is set to take on a pivotal recurring role in the upcoming season.

“The Chi,” created and executive produced by the talented Lena Waithe and her Hillman Grad banner, along with executive producer Common, tells the coming-of-age story of a group of residents on Chicago’s South Side. United by coincidence, they form deep connections while navigating the journey of redemption.

In the sixth season, Whitfield will embody the character of Alicia, an intimidating and wealthy matriarch who stops at nothing to achieve her desires. With her commanding presence, Alicia is set to add an exciting dynamic to the show’s narrative.

Prepare for a season filled with big dreams coming to fruition, but at a cost. Our beloved characters will face unimaginable challenges as they weigh the risks and rewards of their next moves. Emmett (Jacob Latimore) and Kiesha (Birgundi Baker) find their blended union tested by Emmett’s insatiable drive to expand his business and a perilous new partnership. Meanwhile, Kiesha embarks on a rewarding new career.

Douda (Curtiss Cook) deals with the aftermath of Q’s murder, which impacts the loyalty within his inner circle. Victor (Luke James) makes a bold declaration of love, affecting both his new relationship and his political ambitions. Jada (Yolonda Ross), happily married, serves as a mentor to Emmett and her close friends as they navigate the complexities of relationships. Kevin (Alex Hibbert) excels as a master gamer but grapples with the challenges of early independence. Jake (Michael V. Epps) ventures into a new business, while Papa (Shamon Brown Jr.) falls for an older woman while questioning his faith.

“The Chi” boasts a remarkable team of executive producers, including Lena Waithe, Common, Aaron Kaplan, Rick Famuyiwa, Derek Dudley, Shelby Stone, and Rishi Rajani. Season 6 will be co-showrun by Justin Hillian and Jewel Coronel, with Deondray Gossfield and Quincy LeNear Gossfield directing multiple episodes.

Fans can mark their calendars for the highly-anticipated premiere. “The Chi” Season 6 will first stream on Paramount+ starting Friday, August 4, before making its on-air debut on Showtime on Sunday, August 6, at 9 p.m. ET/PT.

Lynn Whitfield’s impressive track record includes an Emmy Award for Outstanding Lead Actress in a Miniseries or Special for her portrayal of Josephine Baker in “The Josephine Baker Story.” She has also been honored with NAACP and Gracie Awards for her role as Lady Mae in the family drama series “Greenleaf.” Whitfield’s next venture will be a lead role in the independent film “Albany Road,” alongside Renee Elise Goldsberry.
