See It Loud: The History of Black TV is Getting a Documentary Thanks to The SpringHill Company

Executive producers LeBron James and Maverick Carter, known for their Emmy® Award-winning studio The SpringHill Company, are set to debut their latest creation, “See It Loud: The History of Black Television,” on Sunday, July 9, at 9pm ET/PT on CNN. The five-part series will then air regularly on Sundays at 9pm ET/PT on CNN.

“See It Loud” pays homage to the achievements of Black actors and creators while delving into the profound impact of Black culture on the broader entertainment landscape. As we find ourselves amidst what is being hailed as “The Golden Age of Black Television,” it’s important to recognize that this pinnacle has been a long time coming. Over the span of eighty years, Black artists have relentlessly fought for representation and a platform to share their stories. This series aims to shed light on their journey and showcase the evolution of Black television.

The five-part series embarks on an exhilarating journey, starting from the origins of Black television in iconic sitcoms like “The Jeffersons” and venturing into the realm of groundbreaking dramas like “Roots.” “See It Loud” also explores the emerging opportunities for Black voices in genres such as sci-fi and horror. Furthermore, the series examines the cultural impact of reality and unscripted shows on Black culture. Each episode aims to not only explore the impact on creators but also forge connections and build communities through shared experiences with audiences.

To bring this vibrant series to life, “See It Loud” features interviews with a stellar lineup of talent, including Amanda Seales, Anika Noni Rose, Daniel Ezra, Da’Vinchi, Debbie Allen, Deon Cole, Desus & Mero, Gabrielle Union, Jimmie Walker, Judge Greg Mathis, Kevin Frazier, Lamorne Morris, Laz Alonso, Loni Love, Lynn Whitfield, Mo’Nique, Naturi Naughton, Omari Hardwick, Ray J, Ruben Studdard, Sherri Shepherd, Sonequa Martin-Green, Tatyana Ali, Tiffany Pollard, Tisha Campbell, Vivica A. Fox, and many more.

LeBron James and Maverick Carter spearhead the project as executive producers for The SpringHill Company, alongside Amy Entelis and Lyle Gamm for CNN Original Series. Showrunner Jodi Gomes serves as an executive producer, while Jamal Henderson, Philip Byron, and Courtney Whitaker take on additional executive producer and co-executive producer roles.

The official trailer for “See It Loud” made its debut during CultureCon on June 17 in Los Angeles, thrilling attendees with its captivating glimpse into the series’ immersive storytelling.
