Netflix Debuts Trailer for ‘Madea’s Destination Wedding’ Ahead of July Release

Madea is back — and this time, she’s headed to the Bahamas.

Tyler Perry’s iconic, no-nonsense grandma returns for Madea’s Destination Wedding, streaming July 11 on Netflix. The new comedy marks the 20th anniversary of the character and serves as the 13th Madea film — and Perry’s 30th feature overall.

But before you ask, no, Madea’s not the one getting married.

Instead, the story centers around her grand-niece Tiffany (Diamond White), who drops a bombshell: she’s getting married in two weeks to a rapper named Zavier (Xavier Smalls) she met on a yacht. That news sends her parents — Brian (Perry, in a dual role) and his ex-wife Debrah (Taja V. Simpson) — into panic mode. Cue the family chaos.

When Madea learns the wedding is happening in the Bahamas, she’s less than thrilled. “I am illegal in 92 countries. I cannot be going all the way to no Bahamas,” she says in the newly released trailer. But once she hears there’s an open bar, it’s game on: “We will be there.”

The film reunites Madea’s usual crew: Cassi Davis Patton as Aunt Bam, Tamela J. Mann as Cora, David Mann as Mr. Brown, and Perry as Joe — all island-bound and wildly out of their element. From cramped coach flights to wild pre-wedding parties, Madea’s Destination Wedding blends slapstick comedy with messy family drama, signature Perry style.

“She’s up to something,” Madea warns in the trailer. “If you don’t have trust in a marriage, you don’t have nothin’.”

Produced by Perry alongside Angi Bones and Yolanda T. Cochran, the film is part of Perry’s packed 2024-2025 Netflix slate. So far this year, he’s already released Beauty in Black: Part 2, the comedy series She the People, and Straw, starring Taraji P. Henson — which shot straight to No. 1 in the U.S. Top 10. Still to come is R&B, a modern retelling of Ruth and Boaz, which Perry executive produced.

Whether Madea’s Destination Wedding ends in holy matrimony or another international incident remains to be seen — but one thing’s for sure: beaches, brace yourselves.
