Eddie Murphy, Keke Palmer, and Pete Davidson Lead Prime Video’s High-Octane Comedy ‘The Pickup’ [Trailer]

The Pickup trailer

Amazon MGM Studios has dropped the official trailer for The Pickup, a high-stakes action-comedy premiering August 6, 2025, on Prime Video. Directed by Tim Story (Barbershop, The Blackening), the film brings together an all-star cast led by Eddie Murphy, Pete Davidson, and Keke Palmer in a chaotic buddy-heist adventure filled with explosions, unexpected twists, and plenty of laughs.

A Heist Gone Hilariously Wrong

Murphy stars as Russell, a seasoned armored truck driver reluctantly paired with the much younger, reckless Travis (Davidson) for what should be a simple cash pickup. Things take a turn when their vehicle is ambushed by Zoe (Palmer), a sharp and savvy criminal mastermind who has her eyes on a bigger prize—$60 million from a casino.

Caught in the middle of her heist scheme, Russell and Travis are forced to go along with Zoe’s plan or risk losing everything—especially Russell’s wife, played by Eva Longoria, who becomes a hostage in the middle of the chaos. What follows is a wild ride across city streets, casino vaults, and comedic clashes as the unlikely trio tries to pull off the job without killing each other.

Packed Cast and Creative Team

Joining the lead trio are Eva Longoria (Flamin’ Hot), Ismael Cruz Córdova (The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power), Jack Kesy (Deadpool 2), Andrew Dice Clay, Marshawn Lynch, and WWE superstar Joe “Roman Reigns” Anoa’i.

The Pickup was written by Kevin Burrows and Matt Mider (The Package, Gentlemen Lobsters) and produced by Tim Story for The Story Company, along with Eddie Murphy and longtime collaborator John Davis (Dolemite Is My Name). Charisse Hewitt-Webster, John Fox, Vicky Mara Story, Jeremy Stein, Ross Fanger, Burrows, and Mider serve as executive producers.

Tim Story’s Signature Blend of Action and Comedy

With The Pickup, Story returns to his comedic roots, blending streetwise action with laugh-out-loud moments. The trailer teases everything from explosive standoffs and tense negotiations to ridiculous hijinks and Murphy’s signature deadpan humor. Think Bad Boys energy with a twist of Murphy’s legendary comedic timing and Davidson’s awkward unpredictability.

The film also marks a reunion for Murphy and Davis, who previously teamed up for Dolemite Is My Name, and follows the success of Murphy’s Candy Cane Lane, which became one of Prime Video’s biggest global debuts when it dropped last holiday season.

Why It Matters

This isn’t just another buddy comedy—it’s one of the few big studio action comedies in recent years led by a majority Black and Brown cast. With Murphy and Palmer at the center, The Pickup feels like a modern update to the kind of action-comedy hybrids that dominated the early 2000s, retooled for a new audience hungry for representation and entertainment that doesn’t take itself too seriously.

Release Date

The Pickup premieres August 6, 2025, exclusively on Prime Video.
