Director Malcolm D. Lee has built his career on bringing the laughs — Girls Trip, The Best Man, Night School — but this summer he’s venturing somewhere entirely new. His latest film, Strung, is a psychological thriller premiering exclusively on Peacock on June 26th.
The film follows Laila, a gifted violinist played by Chloe Bailey, who lands what seems like a dream gig tutoring the talented daughter of a wealthy, enigmatic Los Angeles family. But as she gets pulled deeper into their glamorous world, dark secrets begin to surface and she starts to question her safety, her dreams, and even her sanity. The film also stars Lucien Laviscount, Lynn Whitfield, Anna Diop, and Coco Jones, and is produced by Tyler Perry and Jason Blum of Blumhouse.
I sat down with Malcolm D. Lee to talk about stepping into a brand new genre, putting together this incredible cast, and what audiences can expect when Strung hits Peacock.
