‘Mayor of Kingstown’ Fifth and Final Season First Look: “No One Is Safe This Season”

Paramount+ has set January 15, 2027, as the premiere date for the fifth and final season of Taylor Sheridan’s Mayor of Kingstown, releasing first-look photos alongside the announcement. Jeremy Renner teased the stakes on Instagram, writing, “No one is safe this season… I mean Nobody!”

The final season picks up in the aftermath of Season 4’s violent climax, “Belly of the Beast,” which ended with escaped Aryan Brotherhood leader Merle Callahan orchestrating an attack that killed Tracy, the wife of Mike’s brother Kyle, played by Taylor Handley. After Merle surrendered to police, Mike and detective Ian Ferguson secretly intercepted him before he could reach the protection of the prison system, and Kyle executed him at a rail yard. FBI agent Russell Hardy, played by David Morse, arrives in Kingstown in Season 5 searching for Callahan, unaware he’s already dead, a fugitive hunt that puts Mike and Kyle directly in Hardy’s crosshairs and threatens to expose their off-the-books execution along with the rest of Mike’s secrets.

Unlike the show’s first four seasons, which each ran 10 episodes, the final season will run just eight. Filming wrapped June 30, and Renner marked the moment on Instagram with a message crediting the show with helping him recover following his 2023 snowplow accident, thanking the cast and crew for “carrying me through when necessary.”

The season also stars Laura Benanti, Hugh Dillon, Tobi Bamtefa, and Derek Webster, with Necar Zadegan, Nichole Galicia, and Lennie James returning, and Néstor Carbonell joining as a new cast member. Mayor of Kingstown was co-created by Sheridan and Dillon, with Sheridan directing the series pilot. The show is executive produced by Sheridan, Dillon, Renner, Antoine Fuqua, and Dave Erickson, who also serves as showrunner, among others, and is produced by Paramount Television Studios, 101 Studios, and Bosque Ranch Productions.

With the series closing out at eight episodes after a yearlong gap with no new content, the final season carries real pressure to deliver a conclusion substantial enough to justify the wait, especially for a fanbase that’s continued finding the show through its growing streaming success on Netflix.
