Mekhi Phifer, Dermot Mulroney, Jena Malone, and Vannessa Vasquez are astronauts headed for a trip to outer space in Moon People, the indie feature directed by Stanley Yung.
Written by Niko Foster, the film follows a team of astronauts who travel to the Moon to confirm the discovery of water, only to encounter unexpected danger as they fight to survive. It was shot in Lexington, Kentucky. Phifer plays Cape Josh Briley, Malone plays Dr. Jennifer Foster, Mulroney plays Sam Foster, and Vasquez plays Dr. Diana Alvarez.
Moon People is a production of Al Bravo Films, with Al Bravo, Michael Pizzimenti, and Tim Sabo producing. Renata Stiglich and Pejman Partiyeli executive produce, with Hemdee Kiwanuka, Jacov Bresler, and Michelle Wang serving as co-producers.
Phifer’s casting adds to a busy stretch. He recently starred in Lifetime’s Mary J. Blige Presents: Be Happy, appeared as Lyman Ross in a Season 24 episode of Law & Order, and joined ABC’s High Potential Season 2 in a recurring role as Arthur Ellis, an old friend of the lead character with a mysterious past. He’ll also star in the upcoming action thriller Marx, playing Ian, a calculating brother navigating Las Vegas’s criminal underworld.
