The former NFL quarterback returns home—and to BET—for a new chapter built on faith, football, and second chances.
Michael Vick is headed back to where it all started—his home state of Virginia—and BET is taking us along for the ride.
The BET Media Group just greenlit an original docuseries following the four-time Pro Bowler and one of the most dynamic quarterbacks in football history as he steps into his latest role: head coach of Norfolk State University’s football team. The series will track Vick’s transition from the NFL spotlight to HBCU sidelines, documenting his personal and professional evolution as he pours into the next generation of athletes.
This marks a full-circle moment—not just geographically, but spiritually. From his high school days in Newport News to lighting it up at Virginia Tech, then rewriting the rules of quarterbacking in the NFL, Vick’s story has always been one of raw talent, public trials, and deeply personal growth. Now, he’s turning that story into purpose, shaping young lives while reclaiming his own legacy.
The untitled series—produced by SMAC Entertainment—will offer an unfiltered, behind-the-scenes look at everything that comes with building a college football program from the inside out. It’ll explore the highs, the setbacks, and the quiet in-between moments: the pep talks with his players, conversations with family (including wife and producing partner Kijafa Vick), and the weight of leading with integrity when the spotlight’s back on you.
“Michael brought his first series to our network, and now we’re proud to join forces again—this time to tell a powerful new chapter of his story,” said Tiffany Lea Williams, EVP of Unscripted Programming and Development at BET. “From NFL legend to HBCU coach, Mike’s evolution is exactly the kind of story BET was built to tell—one rooted in resilience, redemption, and the brilliance of Black excellence.”
For Vick and his wife Kijafa, this series is personal. “We are excited to partner with BET to share the next chapter of our football journey and our lives, as we return home where it all started for us,” the couple shared in a joint statement.
Michael Strahan—Vick’s longtime friend and SMAC Entertainment co-founder—will executive produce alongside Constance Schwartz-Morini and FredAnthony Smith. For Strahan, this isn’t just business—it’s belief. “Michael Vick’s commitment to impacting these young men’s lives and passing along the gifts that football gave him is so inspiring,” he said. “I’m excited for fans to join him on his journey with Norfolk State University.”
This project is also an extension of BET’s ongoing #HBweCU initiative, a platform dedicated to spotlighting and investing in HBCUs—not just as schools, but as cultural powerhouses. By placing Norfolk State’s football program and its players at the center, the series promises to highlight what makes HBCU athletics so essential: community, culture, and the kind of grit that can’t be taught, only lived.
No premiere date has been announced yet, but when it does drop, expect something that’s equal parts sports doc, personal memoir, and cultural lens. Michael Vick is ready to coach, but he’s also ready to tell the kind of story that might just inspire the next Vick, sitting in the stands, watching their future walk the sidelines.
Stay tuned.
