Tom Cruise is putting his life on the line one more time in Mission: Impossible – The Final Reckoning. The latest trailer just dropped, and if the action-packed visuals don’t knock the wind out of you, the intensity of the story might. The film officially hits theaters May 23, kicking off Memorial Day weekend with a bang (literally).
Tom Cruise is back—and it’s for all the marbles. The trailer for Mission: Impossible – The Final Reckoning just dropped, and it’s serving the kind of high-stakes, edge-of-your-seat action that only Ethan Hunt can deliver. The film hits theaters May 23, and yes, this is being billed as his final mission.
After eight adrenaline-pumping installments, The Final Reckoning wraps up one of the most iconic action franchises in movie history. Picking up where 2023’s Dead Reckoning left off, Ethan is still trying to prevent The Entity—a rogue AI with world-ending potential—from falling into the wrong hands. But this time, the betrayal is closer, the danger deeper, and the fallout even more personal.
From the very first lines of the trailer—“This can’t all be true… CIA black vault break-in… The Kremlin bombing”—we’re thrust back into Hunt’s world of global chaos and impossible choices. One voice says it plainly: “If we want to bring the world back from the brink, we have to deal with him. Should he choose to accept.”
The team’s been compromised. The stakes are sky-high. And Ethan’s final act is one long, dangerous sprint toward destiny.
As for the action? Cruise isn’t just running full-speed through explosions—he’s once again doing death-defying stunts that push the human body to its limit. That includes an underwater submarine sequence and a plane stunt so intense it left him momentarily passing out. “When you stick your face out [of an airplane] going 120 to 130 miles an hour… you’re not getting oxygen,” Cruise told Empire. “There were times I would pass out.”
Joining Cruise for the final ride are franchise regulars Simon Pegg (Benji), Ving Rhames (Luther), Vanessa Kirby (Alanna), Hayley Atwell (Grace), Pom Klementieff (Paris), and Esai Morales, returning as the cold-blooded villain Gabriel. Also back: Greg Tarzan Davis, Shea Whigham, Henry Czerny, Mariela Garriga, and Angela Bassett.
New additions to the Mission: Impossible universe include Ted Lasso’s Hannah Waddingham, Nick Offerman, Tramell Tillman, Lucy Tulugarjuk, Katy O’Brian, Stephen Oyoung, Janet McTeer, Holt McCallany, Charles Parnell, and Frederick Schmidt.
Behind the scenes, Christopher McQuarrie returns to direct and co-write, sharing writing duties with Erik Jendresen and producing alongside Cruise. Executive producers include David Ellison, Dana Goldberg, Don Granger, and Chris Brock.
With a reported budget of $400 million, The Final Reckoning is aiming for global box office glory. For Paramount, this film isn’t just a finale—it’s a high-wire bet that could rival the success of Top Gun: Maverick.
So the question stands: Can Ethan Hunt and his IMF crew pull off one final miracle?
We’ll find out May 23.
