Nathalie Emmanuel and David Harewood to Star in Serial Killer Thriller ‘Hyde’

The noir thriller has begun shooting in Bucharest with a cast that includes Holt McCallany and Bruce Greenwood

A new serial killer thriller is taking shape on the streets of Bucharest, Romania. Hyde, the latest film from directing duo Graham and Parker Phillips, has entered production with a cast led by Holt McCallany, who built his reputation in the genre playing FBI agent Bill Tench across four seasons of David Fincher’s acclaimed Netflix series Mindhunter.

McCallany steps into the role of Detective Grimes, a troubled investigator picking through the rotting core of a crumbling city in pursuit of a brutal serial killer. It is a character defined as much by his own darkness as by the crimes he is chasing, and the film’s supporting cast has been assembled to reflect that psychological complexity.

Nathalie Emmanuel plays Detective Doran, a fellow officer assigned to keep close watch on Grimes. David Harewood plays Lieutenant Robert Malloy, a man doing his best to hold an underfunded department together while trying to pull Grimes back from whatever edge he is approaching.

Rounding out the principal cast is Bruce Greenwood as Henry Monroe, the therapist Grimes is required to see, whose sessions gradually peel back the layers of the detective’s past. Greenwood brings a long resume of morally layered roles to the part, having appeared in everything from Thirteen Days and The Post to The Fall of the House of Usher on television.

Graham and Parker Phillips, who previously made Rumble Through the Dark, wrote and are directing the film, producing through Phillips Pictures alongside Jason Tamasco and Zak Kristofek for Traction. Cassian Elwes, Keith Danko and Bailey Rotsky serve as executive producers.

Emmanuel, who earned an Emmy nomination for her work on Game of Thrones, has in recent years expanded her range considerably, appearing in Francis Ford Coppola’s Megalopolis and John Woo’s The Killer. Harewood, meanwhile, has been equally active on stage, completing a critically acclaimed West End run of Othello after becoming the first Black actor to play the role at the Royal National Theatre. Greenwood is currently in production on Trinity, a new Netflix thriller series from Line of Duty creator Jed Mercurio.
