Rob a Bank, But Make Sure You Stream It First: The First Trailer for ‘How to Rob a Bank’ Has Arrived

You know what’s more powerful than money? An audience.

Now that we have learned how to blow up a pipeline, it is time to move on to robbing a bank. And if the first trailer for How to Rob a Bank is anything to go by, the crew at the center of David Leitch’s latest are very happy to show you exactly how it is done.

The film follows a group of social media-savvy bank robbers who broadcast their heists live, racking up viral fame and something close to celebrity status on the streets of Pittsburgh. Led by characters played by Nicholas Hoult and Pete Davidson, the crew calls itself The Wolf Pack and has turned armed robbery into appointment viewing. The trailer opens with a statistic that nine out of ten armed robberies are successful, which feels optimistic, but the film is clearly more interested in what happens during that tenth one.

Closing in on the gang are a veteran FBI agent played by John C. Reilly and a technologically gifted outsider played by Zoe Kravitz, an unlikely pairing that gives the film its cat-and-mouse spine. Anna Sawai, Rhenzy Feliz and Christian Slater round out the cast, with Radiohead’s “Karma Police” setting the tone throughout the trailer.

As you watch, the film raises a question it seems genuinely interested in exploring: who are the real criminals here? The robbers giving back and representing a society trying to survive, or the banks that have been bailed out more times than anyone cares to count?

The official synopsis from Amazon MGM frames it this way: the crew is unaware that their growing viral fame has put them in the crosshairs of both the FBI and a brilliant software engineer, and as the net tightens, they push past their limits for their most ambitious heist yet.

Leitch is an interesting filmmaker to have at the helm of a project like this. A former stunt coordinator who has built a career directing high-octane action films including John Wick, Atomic Blonde, Deadpool 2 and Bullet Train, he most recently helmed 2024’s The Fall Guy with Ryan Gosling, which earned strong reviews despite a disappointing box office run. Before landing on How to Rob a Bank, he had been attached to Jurassic World Rebirth, but exited over creative differences, with Gareth Edwards ultimately stepping in as his replacement.

The screenplay comes from Mark Bianculli, a writer on the Amazon series Hunters. Early test screening reactions have suggested the film leans into a DIY aesthetic during its robbery sequences, shooting portions in a style reminiscent of TikTok, YouTube and Instagram content, which fits neatly with its premise.

How to Rob a Bank is an Amazon MGM Studios production from 87 North and Imagine Entertainment, produced by Brian Grazer, Jeb Brody, Allan Mandelbaum, Kelly McCormick and Leitch himself. It is rated R for language, some violence and brief drug use, and opens exclusively in theaters on September 4, 2026.
