The Cinema Foundation has announced the highly anticipated return of National Cinema Day, scheduled to take place on Sunday, August 27th. Building on the success of last year’s inaugural event, this year’s National Cinema Day will offer discounted admissions for all movies at participating U.S. theaters in various formats, including Premium Large Screens, for no more than $4.

With over 3,000 participating locations boasting more than 30,000 screens nationwide, the one-day event aims to celebrate the joy of moviegoing while providing an affordable entertainment option for audiences. The festivities will feature a diverse lineup of films, including new releases, independent gems, summer blockbusters, and exclusive content available exclusively in theaters.

Attendees can enjoy a wide range of movie options, spanning from the latest releases like “Gran Turismo,” “Golda,” “The Hill,” “Retribution,” and “Bottoms,” to popular box office hits such as “Blue Beetle,” “Barbie,” “Oppenheimer,” “Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutant Mayhem,” and “Sound of Freedom.” Families can relish recent successes like “The Super Mario Bros. Movie” and “Disney’s The Little Mermaid Sing-Along,” while classic enthusiasts can revisit timeless films like “Jurassic Park” (in 3D), “American Graffiti,” “Lady Bird,” and “Oldboy.”

Jackie Brenneman, President of The Cinema Foundation, expressed enthusiasm for the event, stating, “Following the rousing success of the first annual National Cinema Day, we welcome everyone to join us for the communal experience of one of America’s favorite pastimes: moviegoing. We look forward to gathering at the movies and celebrating an exciting slate of new releases and classics, from beloved family favorites and outrageous comedies to thought-provoking dramas and thrilling adventures. There’s something for everyone. Let’s all go!”

Michael O’Leary, President and CEO of the National Association of Theatre Owners, echoed this sentiment, highlighting the unifying power of movies and the important role theaters play in communities. “National Cinema Day is a celebration of movie fandom and of the uniting role that movie theaters play in our communities,” O’Leary remarked.

Last year’s National Cinema Day garnered significant attention, with a Fandango survey revealing the top five reasons audiences were eager to participate again: affordable pricing, the chance to see specific long-awaited films, quality time with loved ones, fandom for particular movie franchises, and a fun weekend activity.

As summer draws to a close, National Cinema Day provides a great opportunity for families to have a movie day at the big screen without breaking the bank.
