Amazon has renewed Neagley for a second season, roughly two weeks after the Frances Neagley-led drama dropped its full first season. The show has reached 40 million viewers in its first 13 days, making it the platform’s fourth most-watched original series debut, with 52% of that audience coming from international markets, led by the UK, Germany, and Brazil. Amazon has not disclosed how it calculates that viewership figure.
Based on Lee Child’s Jack Reacher novels, Neagley follows Frances Neagley, a private investigator in Chicago and former protégé of Jack Reacher in the Army’s 110th Special Investigations Unit. Season 1 kicks off when Neagley learns a beloved friend from her past has been killed in a suspicious accident, pulling her into an investigation that ultimately exposes a conspiracy tied to the Echo Canyon Farm facility and a cult leader testing an experimental drug called Tranqlara. Along the way, Neagley also uncovers a suppressed memory from her own childhood, confronts unfinished business with her estranged father, and ends the season opening a new investigative firm, York Investigations, alongside her team.
Though Neagley is adapted from existing source material, Amazon still classifies it as an original series, a standard industry designation referring to shows produced specifically for a streaming platform rather than licensed from elsewhere, regardless of whether the story is based on a book, film, or other property. Reacher itself, also adapted from Child’s novels, carries the same classification. The renewal comes just days after we reported Reacher had landed an early Season 6 pickup while Season 5 is still in production, giving Amazon two connected renewals announced within the same week. Alan Ritchson, who stars as Jack Reacher, appears only in a guest role across Neagley’s first season, with Maria Sten carrying the show in the lead.
The cast also includes Greyston Holt, Adeline Rudolph, Jasper Jones, Matthew Del Negro, and Damon Herriman. Neagley is produced by Paramount Television Studios and Amazon MGM Studios, created by Nick Santora and Nicholas Wootton, who serve as co-showrunners and executive producers alongside Child, Don Granger, Sam Hill, Adam Higgs, and Lisa Kussner. Carolyn Harris, Kenny Madrid, and Niko Fernandez oversee the project for Paramount Television Studios.
Peter Friedlander, head of global television for Amazon MGM Studios, said audiences have embraced Frances Neagley as a force all her own, crediting Sten’s performance and the world Santora and Wootton built as reasons the studio is eager to continue the story.
With a second season now confirmed, the bigger question is whether Neagley can keep building an identity distinct from its parent series, or whether its future stays tied to how closely it orbits Reacher.
