Netflix has released the first teaser for The Polygamist, a new 22-episode supernovela adapted from Sue Nyathi’s acclaimed novel, with production officially underway ahead of its June 12 premiere.
The series is produced by award-winning Stained Glass Productions and brings together a heavyweight creative team, including executive producers Gugu Zuma-Ncube, Thuli Zuma, and Pepsi Pokane, with directing from Akin Omotoso, Rolie Nikiwe, and Nthabi Tau.
At the center of the story is Jonasi Gomora, a self-made CEO whose rising empire begins to fracture as his complicated personal life unravels. As his relationships with multiple wives and partners collide, secrets, power struggles, and betrayal threaten to dismantle everything he has built.
The series stars Sdumo Mtshali as Jonasi Gomora and Gugu Gumede as Joyce Gomora, with a supporting ensemble that includes Kwanele Mthethwa, S’thandiwe Kgoroge, Kenneth Nkosi, Celeste Ntuli, Luyanda Zwane, Vuyo Biyela, Wonder Ndlovu, Noluthando Shabalala, and Lwazie Keith Tsebesha.
According to the official synopsis, The Polygamist follows a glamorous but unstable world where a powerful man’s carefully curated life begins to collapse under the weight of his choices, with each relationship exposing another layer of his ambition, pride, and deception.
The story centers on four women whose lives become entangled with Jonasi Gomora, exploring themes of love, loyalty, betrayal, and survival as personal and professional worlds collide.
Behind the camera, the series is led by head writer Busisiwe Zwane, with additional writing from Nontuthuzelo Magoxo, Lorato Phefo, and Nkosazana Zuma-Mncube.
The teaser positions The Polygamist as a glossy, emotionally charged drama rooted in high-stakes storytelling, marking Netflix’s continued investment in African adaptations and serialized local storytelling.
