The law meets its match in family. Netflix has released the official trailer for Umthetho, the gripping seven-episode South African drama launching exclusively on the platform on August 14, 2026.
Public prosecutor Mbali Dlamini, played by Nqobile Nunu Khumalo, believed her brother Moses was dead. Fourteen years later he resurfaces, played by Tony Kgoroge, not as the brother she once knew but as a hardened survivor who now runs iGazlam, a ruthless prison syndicate operating from the shadows. What begins as a case that seems worlds away from her own life ends with Mbali standing in the wreckage of everything she believed about her family.
Pulled deeper into a web she cannot escape, Mbali receives a chilling directive to get her brother out of the hole. What follows is a high-stakes surge of violence that exposes how far the Brotherhood is willing to go and how far Mbali may have to go with them. Detective Bennet Tau, played by Molefi Monaisa, Guard Setchaba, played by Obed Baloyi, and Agnes Khoza, the prison’s Head of Centre played by Sindi Dlathu, are all drawn into the fallout as the line between Mbali’s duty to the law and her loyalty to family disappears entirely.
Umthetho, meaning “The Law” in isiZulu, asks the question at the heart of its story: when the law and your blood pull in opposite directions, which one do you obey?
The full cast includes Nqobile Nunu Khumalo, Tony Kgoroge, Given Stuurman, Lorcia Cooper-Khumalo, Sthembiso SK Khoza, Sindi Dlathu, Molefi Monaisa, Ernest Msibi, Lungelo Madondo, Obed Baloyi and Mandla Gaduka. The series is produced by Black Brain Pictures and is an adaptation of the Netflix Brazilian series Brotherhood. Mandla N, Johnny Barbuzano and Jonathan Hall direct, with Mandla N and Melissa Nayimuli serving as creative directors and Jose Domingos as head writer.
Umthetho premieres exclusively on Netflix on August 14, 2026.
