Netflix has set a December 16 premiere date for Give Me Some Sugah, the faith-driven drama directed by Tasha Smith and starring Taraji P. Henson, as we previously reported. Formerly titled ‘Tis So Sweet, the film is inspired by the viral real-life journey of Chicago baker Lenore Lindsey.
Henson plays Lindsey, a Chicago bakery owner whose stunning discovery inspires her to reclaim lost time, heal old wounds and find purpose in life’s unexpected miracles. Jo-Vaughn Virginie Scott, aka Joey Bada$$, stars alongside her as the emotional story unfolds.
The ensemble cast also includes Aunjanue Ellis-Taylor, Russell Hornsby, Alexis Louder, Semaj Prather, Arischa Conner, Angela Davis, Caroline Avery Granger, Tasha Smith and DeVon Franklin.
Smith, who also appears in the film, directs from a script by Randy Brown (Miracles From Heaven). Her previous directing credits include Mayor of Kingstown, Harlem, Bel-Air and BMF. DeVon Franklin and Tyler Perry produce, with Tony Strickland and Angi Bones executive producing for Tyler Perry Studios alongside Bart Lipton.
The film marks the second collaboration between Perry and Franklin crafting faith-driven stories for Netflix, following Ruth and Boaz, which debuted at No. 2 on Netflix’s Global Top 10 Movies list.
The December 16 premiere also continues a massive year for Henson at Netflix, who recently starred in the thriller Straw, has inked a multi-project deal with the streamer and reunites with Perry next month in Why Did I Get Married Again?, arriving September 9.
