Netflix has set an October 2 premiere date for Tyler Perry’s Doing Life, the latest film from the prolific writer, director and producer.
The gritty urban drama follows a single mother (Naomi Baker) fighting to survive and a reformed ex-convict (Jay Reeves) with untapped talent who forge an unexpected bond, exploring themes of resilience, second chances and hope in difficult circumstances.
The ensemble cast also includes Tamberla Perry (Brilliant Minds, They Cloned Tyrone), Karen Obilom (Games People Play, Doom Patrol), Jasmine Sargent (Dynasty), Danielle Moné Truitt (Law and Order: Organized Crime, Rebel) and Lucky Johnson.
Perry wrote, directed and produced the film alongside Angi Bones and Tony L. Strickland for Tyler Perry Studios.
The October 2 premiere follows closely on the heels of another major Perry release on the streamer. Just a month prior, on September 9, Netflix will debut Why Did I Get Married Again?, the long-awaited sequel reuniting the original cast including Tyler Perry, Taraji P. Henson, Jill Scott, Richard T. Jones, Tasha Smith, Michael Jai White, Lamman Rucker and Sharon Leal. The film follows the couples as they reunite to celebrate Marcus and Angela’s daughter’s wedding, only to find that as much as things change, they stay the same.
Doing Life is the latest in a long and growing partnership between Perry and Netflix, which includes A Fall from Grace, A Jazzman’s Blues, Mea Culpa, The Six Triple Eight, Straw and others.
Tyler Perry’s Doing Life premieres October 2 on Netflix.
